R4W delivered ‘Breathable Events’ in 2021.
Although the Healthspan Porthcawl 10K could not go ahead in 2020 or 2021, some R4W events went ahead in autumn 2021 following the easing of restrictions on outdoor events.
The Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run, ABP Newport Wales Marathon and ABP Newport Wales 10K were delivered as ‘Breathable Events‘ – providing a great event day experience and atmosphere with a focus on responsibility and safety. We put a number of additional measures in place to protect the health and safety of participants, event staff, volunteers and the wider public.
Our COVID Safety Guide (which can be viewed below) details all of the measures that were in place to ensure safety and prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Attendees were expected to take personal responsibility to help keep everyone safe – beyond what was required by government guidelines.
For the Healthspan Porthcawl 10K taking place in 2022, appropriate measures will be put in place depending on the public health context at the time. Rest assured that the health and safety of our runners, spectators, volunteers and event staff will be our main priority.
A ‘COVID Pass’ certification system has been introduced by the Welsh Government, requiring people to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to attend large events.
Due to the exceptionally low risk of outdoor mass participation events, and the difficulties in implementing a COVID Pass check at an open city-centre venue, it has been confirmed to us by the Welsh Government that an exemption will apply to these types of events (including the Healthspan Porthcawl 10K) so you will not need to present a COVID pass to attend.
We encourage runners to take personal responsibility by taking a free lateral flow test 24 hours before the event and not attending if they test positive (or show any symptoms of COVID-19).
