Runners who are keen to get their 2026 race calendar locked in need to act fast if they’re hoping to take part in several Run 4 Wales events next year.

It’s a sprint not a marathon for eager runners who are hoping to secure a spot in the popular ABP Newport Marathon Festival in April, as both the marathon and half marathon distances are close to selling out.

The race is one of the flattest marathon courses in Europe with nearly 70% of all finishers claiming a PB on the route and it’s even been named in a list of one of the fastest marathons in the World by Runners World.

It’s expected that the final entries in both races will be snapped up in the coming weeks.

Those who are hoping to enter several races in the 2026 R4W 10K Series – which includes events in Cardiff, Porthcawl, Barry and Newport – also need to move quickly if they’re hoping to save, as bundle options are also nearing capacity too.

Matt Newman, Chief Executive at Run 4 Wales, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to see such an incredible response from runners to next year’s events.

“Places in many of our 2026 races are already close to selling out – particularly in the ABP Newport Marathon and Half Marathon which continues to grow in popularity each year. It’s also fantastic to see so many taking advantage of our 10K Series bundle entries.

“If you’re thinking about joining us on the start line next year, I’d urge you to secure your place soon. As popularity in the sport continues to grow, we’re very much looking forward to welcoming our runners – both returning and new – for another unforgettable season of running.”

First up is the ABP Newport Marathon Festival on Sunday 19 April, followed by the Barry Island 10K on Sunday 17 May. Next in the calendar is the Porthcawl 10K (Sunday 5 July) and Rabbit Run Wales (Saturday 18 July). The event season then closes with the CDF 10K on Sunday 6 September and the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 4 October.

Entry into the ABP Newport Marathon costs £58 for general entry or £48 for the half marathon distance. 10K bundle entries also cost £112 for all four races, £87 for three or £60 for two. Other options including one race, charity spaces and the Business Challenge are also available.
